The simple answer is they’re easy to use, relatively portable, you don’t need to connect to a network, carry around cables and laptop and they give the person presenting something to do to engage with their audience as opposed to just narrating a commentary to a Power Point presentation.

Things to consider when buying a flipchart easel

Mobility & Portability of Flipchart Easels

Some flipchart easels such as the Nobo Barracuda, have bases on castors allowing them to be moved easily from room to room. Others, such as the Nobo Classic, are light enough to carry around and the legs telescope up into the frame to reduce the size and a carry bag with shoulder straps is available.

Construction Flipchart Easels

Most flipchart easels, as well as providing support for a flip chart pad, also double up as dry-wipe boards and can be written on without the need for a flip chart pad. Others, such as the Nobo Shark are also magnetic . Whilst others such as the Nobo Piranha have extending arms either side of the main board for when extra pages to be displayed.

Flipchart Easel Accessories

A good flip chart easel will have a tray to hold the flip chart marker pens. Ideally this pen tray should be able to close to ensure the pens and other accessories remain secure when moving the easel.

Some flip chart easels such as the Nobo Piranha have a unique removable writing ruler to ensure neat and straight lines when writing on the flip chart pad or on the dry-wipe surface. Don’t forget to use dry-wipe pens on the dry-wipe surfaces and include a board cleaner when buying your accessories.

Versatility of Flipchat Easels

Try to make sure that any flipchart easel you consider is height adjustable, after all, all presenters are not going to be the same uniform height.

Ensure that the flipchart easel is stable enough for its intended purpose. If the easel will be static and remaining in one room then a simple three legged construction should be sufficiently stable.

If it’s going to be moved from room to room, consider one with castors on the base and if it’s going to be moved between buildings, consider the weight and size.
