Workplace First Aid Kits – British Standard 8599-1

In June 2011 the British Standards Institute (BSI) created and published a new British Standard for First Aid kits in the workplace. This has been introduced as it was found that many employers weren’t meeting their obligations under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 which requires employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure that employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These regulations apply to all workplaces including those with fewer than five employees and to the self-employed.
