Key features to consider when buying DL envelopes……..
Colour - As with all business envelopes the two key colours available are white and Manilla (Brown). Even within these two simple colours there are variations, especially in white. The premium end of the envelope market, which is served by brands such as Basildon Bond and Plus Fabric, produce high quality envelopes designed for important correspondence or where making an impression is vital. These premium envelopes are produced in brilliant white and on heavy weight high quality paper.
Weight - As with paper the thickness and quality of an envelope is measured by GSM which stands for the Grams per Square Meter. Quite simply the higher the GSM the better quality the envelope. Entry level envelopes start from 80gsm which is the same weight as most standard office copier papers. This thickness of envelope is fine for day to day use but for important correspondence it may be preferable to move to a higher GSM envelope such as 90gsm or 100gsm. The highest quality envelopes use 110gsm to 120gsm paper.
Window - All envelope styles are available with or without a window that allows the recipients address printed on the enclosed document to be seen. Window envelopes are far more common in white envelopes than they are in manilla as for business correspondence white envelopes are considered to be more professional. Window position can vary on the envelope so check the products description and features for details on the product you are intending to buy.
Interior - For security many DL envelopes have a coloured, opaque interior, normally either blue or green in colour. This prevents the contents of the envelope from showing through the envelope.
Closure - DL envelopes are available with gummed seal, press seal and peel and seal closure flaps. If you don’t use envelopes in great quantities and they sit in the stationery cupboard for a long time it’s advisable to get peel and seal closure envelopes as press seal tend to dry out after a time reducing the effectiveness of the adhesive.
