Filing cabinets provide a high volume of storage in a relatively small floor footprint. They are generally used in conjunction with suspension files, also called hanging files, which sit on the drawer runners and slide backwards and forwards enabling easy retrieval of paperwork. The majority of filing cabinets are lockable and some are fire and water proof meaning they can protect extremely sensitive information. Available in anything from one to four drawers with standard drawer sizes or up to 15 drawers in the multi-drawer format they provide a flexible and efficient filing solution.

The Key Features to Consider When Purchasing a Filing Cabinet…….
Number of Drawers - If you are looking for full size A4 or Foolscap size drawers then you can choose from one to four drawer filing cabinets. In smaller drawer formats, known as multi-drawer units, anything from six to fifteen drawers are available.
Security - The majority of filing cabinets are now lockable, however it’s always worth checking the product specifications to confirm this. Most cabinets will have one lock at the top of the unit that locks all the drawers. Some cabinets have individually locking drawers for added security.
Colour - The most common colours are still grey, brown and cream and black. However, as with many office products more interesting colours are increasingly creeping into ranges. You can also purchase wood finish filing cabinets to match existing desks and pedestals you may already have in your office.
Capacity - Filing cabinets are available with A4 or Foolscap size drawers. Foolscap is slightly larger than A4 and the correct size suspension files must also be purchased to match your cabinet. In a typical filing cabinet each drawer should take 25 to 30 suspension files providing they are not overfilled.
Fire and Water Safe - To protect documents from potential fire or water damage caused by flooding Fire Safe filing cabinets are available that can offer up to 60mins protection.
