Finding the Right Office for your Business

One of the most difficult decisions a business has to make is where to base itself. Office space comes in all shapes and sizes and finding a solution that is right for your business can be a real headache. Even when you find an office space that seems perfect for your company the location may not be right.

Given that many office rental agreements can be measured in years with expensive get-out clauses built in its worth consider these following five points before signing on that dotted line.

Is the space flexible?

The one constant in business, especially in recent times, is that change is inevitable, can come about very quickly and sometimes out of the blue. If your business grows, contracts or changes direction will your office space be able to change with it? Open plan offices are great in this respect as it’s very easy to move desks, add partitions and change working areas.

Location, Location Location

If your customers come to your place of work then you need to consider how easy and accessible it is. It’s also important that your premises give off the right impression. If you’re dealing with high end products or services then an office in the middle of a run-down industrial estate probably won’t impress them. You also need to consider the ease of which your staff can reach the office and whether they can park on site or nearby without incurring expensive parking costs.

Hidden Costs

Before signing any contract ensure you understand exactly what is and isn’t included in the price. Many business centres may include rates, broadband, phone and utilities as part of a monthly package.

Shared Office Space

A solution that is becoming more popular is shared offices where several businesses inhabit the same space. This has numerous advantages and works well for small companies as it provides a dynamic working environment where ideas and experiences can be shared.

Virtual Offices

If your business is still in its infancy then an office may not yet be needed. Office space comes at price and a large regular monthly expense can put unnecessary pressure on the bottom line. A virtual office provides many of the services and features of a regular office without the hefty price tag.
