Laminating pouches are mainly for use with pouch laminating machines. The laminating pouch has a sealed seam which creates a pocket for the document that is to be laminated to be inserted. The pouch is normally sealed on the shortest side with the other 3 sides left open for the easy positioning of the document to be laminated. The pouch is lined with an adhesive which is solid at room temperature. When the pouch with the document is passed through the laminating machine the adhesive on the inside is heated and melts which seals the document inside. For heat sensitive documents self-adhesive pouches are available for which a laminating machine is not needed.
We supply laminating pouches and laminating pockets from top brands including Rexel, GBC and Ibico. We also stock an extensive range of budget laminating supplies in our 5 Star brand.

Laminating pouches are available in a wide range of sizes and thicknesses. The size selection for the pouch is determined by the size of the paper that is to be laminated. We supply pouches for paper sizes A2 – A7 and smaller sizes; Credit Card (54x86mm), IBM (59x83mm), ID (60x90mm), Key Card (64x99mm), Luggage (64x108mm), Military (65x95mm) and Badge (67x95mm).
It is important for you to use the correct size laminating pouch for the document you wish to laminate if you need any help in identifying what type of pouch you need please call us.
The thickness of the lamination pouch is measured in microns (1 micron being 1/1000th of an inch). Pouches are normally available in 5 different thicknesses from 150 to 500 microns. The 150 micron pouch would be the thinnest and is suggested for general everyday use. A 500 micron pouch is the thickest and would be used for very sturdy laminating such as a sign that needs to remain for a period of time.
Other features to consider when purchasing a laminating pouch is the finish required. Pouches are available with a gloss or matt finish. A gloss finish is normally the standard as it provides clarity and impact ideal for presentations and reports. A matt finish is ideal for documents that maybe used outside or in brightly lit areas where light reflection maybe an issue. The other finish choice is rounded corners as these are considered to be ‘safer’ to handle.
Things to consider when choosing Laminating Pouches
- Laminating machine or self-adhesive
Laminating pouches are mainly used with a machine which heats the glue inside the pouch and seals the document. For heat sensitive documents self-adhesive pouches are available for which a laminating machine is not needed.
- Document size
The sizes available are A2 – A7 and smaller sizes; Credit Card (54x86mm), IBM (59x83mm), ID (60x90mm), Key Card (64x99mm), Luggage (64x108mm), Military (65x95mm) and Badge (67x95mm).
- Document type
Paper & card are the normal document types to be used in laminating pouches. Photos and glossy prints can also be laminated if the correct pouches are used.
- Thickness of finish
5 different thicknesses are available from 150 (thinnest) to 500 (thickest) microns. Consider the final use of the laminated document. Is it for a presentation to be only used once or is if for a sign to be used for a period of time?
- Finishing touches
Do you need a glossy or matt finish? Again consider the final use for the laminated document, if it’s for a presentation consider rounded corners for easier handling.
