To help you decide which products to choose we have provided a short guide to each of the key product groups. When it comes to Writing Supplies there is a huge choice available to the consumer. The modern day pen can be categorised best by the type of writing tip or point.
The Ballpoint Pen dispenses ink by rolling a small hard ball onto the paper, the ink becomes dry almost immediately. Ballpoint pens are generally very reliable and inexpensive and are now the most popular pen choice around the world.
The Rollerball Pen dispenses a water based liquid or gel ink through a mechanism similar to a ballpoint pen. The ink absorbs more easily onto paper than oil based ink and this allows a smoother pen movement across the writing surface.
The Fountain Pen is a nib pen with an internal reservoir of water based liquid ink. The ink is drawn to the paper via a feed in the pen using gravity and a capillary action. Fountain pens require little pressure to apply the ink to the paper.
Fineliner PenS generally have a fibre or plastic tip and are best suited for precision work in offices where neat work is carried out.
Highlighter Pens come in a wide choice of colours, very often these are fluorescent which means they will glow under a black light. The most common colour for highlighter pens is yellow with pink, blue, green, orange purple also being popular.
The Pencil is constructed of a narrow solid pigment core with an outer layer that acts as a protective casing. The majority of pencils follow the European grading system where 'H' is for hardness and 'B' is for blackness as well as 'F' for fine point. The most common writing pencil is 'HB'.
The Permanent Marker is a type of marker pen that, as the name suggests, create a permanent mark on an object. Permanent markers come in a variety of tip sizes from ultra fine to wide and with tip types including chisel point, bullet tip and wide bristle. Our permanent marker range includes top brands such as Edding, Pentel and Sharpie.
Dry Markers are another type of marker pen that are used on white boards as the ink is not permanent and can therefore be wiped clean. Our Drywipe marker range includes Expo, Nobo, Edding and Biro Bic.
The Gel Pen uses ink where a pigment is suspended in a water based gel substance. As the ink is think is shows up much more clearly than that of other types of pen. Gel pens are used for many forms of writing and for illustration. Nib sizes on gel pens range from 0.8mm to 1.5mm. We stock all the top brands of gel pens including Pilot, Pentel and Biro Bic.
The Mechanical Pencil is different from a standard pencil as the inner core is not attached to the protective outer casing. Instead the core can be extended from the casing as the point is worn away through usage. Top brands supplied in this section include Rotring, Pentel and Biro Bic.
