Pencils from Office Allsorts
A pencil is made of a thin solid pigment core which is housed inside a protective casing. The casing maintains the structural integrity of the inner core and also stops the pigment marking the users hand whilst writing.
The most common type of material used for the inner core of a pencil is graphite. Graphite pencils create black or grey marks and are widely used for drawing and writing. Pencil casing can be made from many materials, however wood is by far the most frequently used.
Most pencils across the world are graded using the European system where (H) defines the pencils 'hardness', (B) relates to 'blackness' and (F) for 'fine point'. The HB pencil is the standard writing pencil used today.
