This type of all-in-one printer will provide more than adequate performance for most day to day scanning needs, however if you need a scanner with higher performance then a stand-alone unit may be what you need. Most multi-functional printers have a scanner resolution of 2400 x 2400dpi or lower whereas a stand-alone scanner can have resolutions of 4800 x 4800dpi providing much shaper and clearer scanned images.
